Travel InformationSLAPSTICON 2010's Arlington, Virginia, location is directly across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. If traveling in by air, there are three major airports from which to choose. The closest is Reagan National Airport, which is a short cab or subway ride to the Rosslyn area of Arlington, where SLAPSTICON 2010 will be taking place. Be sure to check out budget airlines that serve Reagan National. Washington Dulles International is about 20 miles west of Arlington. It is also served by several budget airlines. Although there is no rail link from Dulles into Rosslyn, shuttles to Metrorail and other destinations are available, and an express city bus provides service from the airport to Rosslyn. Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) is the farthest away (closer to Baltimore than Washington), but very often attractive fares can be obtained by flying in and out of this airport. Shuttle service is also available from BWI. Amtrak, MARC (Maryland commuter trains) and a city bus provide transportation to the Washington, DC metro. For information about air travel to-and-from Washington, D.C., click this helpful link: http://www.washington.org/ Here are some other helpful links: We are pleased to announce that the Rosslyn@Key Bridge Holiday Inn will once again be the official hotel of the 2010 Slapsticon. The Rosslyn@Key Bridge Holiday Inn is very close to the Rosslyn Spectrum Theatre, the Slapsticon '10 screening venue. A doorknob-to-doorknob trial walk clocked in at 7 minutes even. You can visit the hotel website here: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hotel/waswp?_requestid=100032 Thanks to the graciousness of the Rosslyn, they are holding a limited number of rooms at the special Slapsticon rate of $99, plus applicable taxes. That rate will be available for Thursday, July 15 through Sunday, July 18 (check out Monday morning). Just use the special SLP code to book your room. The operators at the Holiday Inn 800 number may not recognize the code, but you can call the hotel directly at 703-807-2000. This is a deal-and-a-half, folks! Try getting on any of the hotel search engines and find a room this close to DC and within blocks of a Metro station for anywhere near this price. If you wait til the summer, the block may have been filled. Here is a list of other hotels in the area, in case you miss out on the Rosslyn discount: The Rosslyn Courtyard Marriott (10-minute walk to the Spectrum): The Best Western Key Bridge (5-minute walk to the Spectrum): The Virginian Suites (10-minute walk to the Spectrum): Inn of Rosslyn Motel (15-minute walk to the Spectrum): The Day's Inn Arlington (a 5-minute bus ride to the Spectrum): Holiday Inns at Rosslyn, Crystal City (Metrorail to Spectrum) and Ballston (Metrorail to Spectrum): And of course Yahoo has a great hotel-finding service on their site: |
